I know my PR friends say I should be more positive in my ReferralBonus blog posts.  But it’s so hard when the BS that recruiters continue to call “acceptable business practices” is nothing more than unwanted spam.

The latest was from Mike Astringer of www.humancapitalconsultants.com to my friend Patrick Roberts, Co-organizer of the Boston Ruby group. www.bostonrb.org

Mike Astringer of www.humancapitalconsultants.com spam InMail

And Mike didn’t have the professionalism to check Patrick’s LinkedIn contact settings beforehand which indicate he’s not open to job opportunities.

Patrick's LinkedIn contact settings show not open to InMails about jobs

Business is about relationships.

As Patrick had pointed out, if there had been a relationship he may have been open to hearing about a new opportunity.

But… Patrick is happy with his job at Iora Health. He’s thriving and growing and loves it there.

If one of Patrick’s friends had seen him as a match for a job at PatientsLikeMe through the ReferralBonus application, his friend never would have sent him the job because his friends know how much he loves it there.

Recruiters are obsolete. Job boards are obsolete. Join us on our journey to destroy current hiring processes and change the world for the better!

What skillsets are needed for innovation? What are the current hot technologies used in startups today? How should startups be marketing themselves to increase brand awareness? How can you benefit from a “Pay It Forward” “Givers Gain” philosophy?

Marsh explains why he doesn’t consider himself to be an “entrepreneur”.

Wait…. did Marsh actually say that about young “entrepreneurs”? NO WAY?!?! Agree or disagree? #JFDI?

Marsh Sutherland, CEO & Co-founder of ReferralBonus, FounderMatchup, and SocialGrow, sits down with Pixability’s VP of Marketing Rob Ciampa to discuss the Boston startup scene. Marsh says he’s driven to simply change things that piss him off & explains how that desire to be a change agent got him to launch ReferralBonus and FounderMatchup.

Let’s add Ryan from ColanInfotech to the list of Craigslist job board spammers.

He writes “This is Ryan here from COLAN InfoTech Software Solutions (P) Ltd, an Offshore Software Development and Website Designing & Development Company based out of Chennai, India.”

I very clearly wrote “No recruiting agencies. No offshore consultants. No H1B visa candidates. If you contact me, you may be publicly embarrassed. ;)” in the Craigslist posting.

Reported him to Craigslist too.

Apparently Terry Parrott at Dolphin Micro can’t read.  I very clearly wrote “No recruiting agencies. No offshore consultants. No H1B visa candidates. If you contact me, you may be publicly embarrassed. ;)” in the Craigslist posting.

So Terry decides to spam me anyways with his offshore consulting services…

Another Craigslist spammer…. When will they learn??

Terry, business is about relationships. This is not the way to build them.

I felt so bad for these people.  Looking like this on the way INTO work?  They need their friends to refer them and help them get some awesome jobs they’re excited about! :-)

Ron Brennan of US Executive Corporation showed me up!!! He said “I make 1.7M a year at 15%……but I do have several other recruiters that work for me.”

I’m in the business of getting people jobs and helping companies find great talent to move this economy forward.

I don’t make $1.7 million a year and if I did I would never throw that in someone’s face.

“$1.7M a year at 15%”…  And people think that recruiting agencies aren’t obsolete? Recruiters wonder why people think of them with disgust?

and Ron Brennan of US Executive Corporation continues to say “As your mama told you……’Son, you always have to pay for talent’”…

A 15% fee is “remarkably different” from a 20% fee?? Really???

How about candidates that come to you referred by their former coworkers for a fee YOU set in advance as low as $500 is “remarkably different”….

What part of the “direct contact by recruiters is ok” box NOT being checked didn’t she understand?
